Asus Router Slow Download Speed

So I thought my router was already defective. I bought a new one, Asus WL-520GU. The shop where I bought it from tested both asus and linksys routers and both were working perfectly. So I set the asus router at home but the connection was still very slow, in both desktop (wired) and laptop (wireless). Re: Download speeds drop 40% with Asus router and Hitron CGN3 modem combo Remember that if you try the AP router with the Asus router, the DHCP on the CGN3 has to be turned back on. Ok, so, if you connect the CGN3 in gateway mode to your pc, you see the 190+ Mb/s.

My internet speed as measured on speedtest.net is 10 Mbps from my desktop computer, which is connected via ethernet to the router. When I measure my speed from my laptop (Surface Pro) when on the WiFi network using the same router, however, the measured speed is 3 Mbps. In addition, when I'm transferring files over the wireless network, Windows 8 File Explorer reports the transfer rate to be 3 Mbps as well. When I test the network using my phone (Samsung Focus WP7), I get a speed of 7 Mbps.

Device Manager reports that the drivers for the card on the Surface Pro (Marvell AVASTAR 350N) are up-to-date. How can I get my Surface Pro speed to match the speed of my internet connection?

Not getting the full speed on WiFi might be due to a lot of things.

You can check your link-speed. If it is not 54Mbps (but far below that) you might have a lot of interference in the air. But your phone has good speed so your laptop should be able to get the same.

You can try switching to 802.11g (instead of the 11b/g/n mixed mode). 802.11n is of no use for you with the limited internet speed and 802.11b is probably not used.

Setting it to 802.11g can give you some stability (depending on the router). (it usually does for me) When you do have a modern-modem you could try 802.11n only but if you see your link speed at 65Mbps with that mode it might be better to choose 802.11g for stability because your modem does not give you the full 802.11n speeds.

Also use a reliable (and several/different) speedtests because they can vary greatly. For example with some speedtest i get 5Mbps while i have 150Mbps. http://www.speedtest.net works nicely for me. They also have a mobile app (http://www.speedtest.net/mobile) so you can compare the phone speed to you laptop.

(The app for Windows Phone should be here, there is a link to the store on the mobile page mentioned above)

Slow Download Speed Windows 7

You need to use Command Prompt

Then do ipconfig /dnsflush, this will delete all of the cashe that is causing the internet to slow down a bit. Also you need to reset your router at least once a month and update it reguarly. Install the driver as it'll fasten a bit. Then make the IP 208.67.222.222 and then the ALT should be 208.67.220.200 to fasten up browsing speed and maybe game speed. All you need to do is go to Control Panel, then go to Network and Sharing center, then after go to Protocol V4, then click Properties, then click the second option on IP, then enter it. This lowers the chance of disconnection. Also delete all of your TEMP FILES by going to Run and then Type in %Temp% and delete them. The system files will not harm your computer. You're not gonna get all of them.

Hope this helps!

So I'm having this issue with the really slow download speed and very fast download speed over cable and wifi. The network topology is the following:

Provider router and FO media converter (PON-TECH PT-47RW) in bridge mode =>Asus AC-RT66U router (connected to lan 1 from provider router).

The speed tests I have done are the following:

laptop connected over cable to provider router - (73.44 Mbps download / 72.83 Mbps upload) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983140310

laptop connected over cable to my asus router - (9.36 Mbps download / 64.59 Mbps upload) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983164758

laptop connected over wifi to my asus router - (13.19 Mbps download / 42.59 Mbps upload) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983158870

I have already tried other suggestions from various forums like turning off the firewall or WMM but that didn't help.I have also ran the tests using an old tplink TL-WR940N router and here's what I got:

laptop connected over wifi to my tp link - (21.81 Mbps download / 10.76 Mbps uplpoad) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983146621

laptop connected over cable to my tp link - (12.51 Mbps download / 10.65 Mbps upload) http://www.speedtest.net/result/6983153018

The download speed over wifi is slighly faster but on cable is the same...

Asus Router Slow Ethernet

What could the problem be?

Summary
cable provider router - 73.44 Mbps download / 72.83
cable asus router - 9.36 Mbps download / 64.59 Mbps upload
wifi asus router - 13.19 Mbps download / 42.59 Mbps upload
cable tp-link router - 21.81 Mbps download / 10.76 Mbps
wifi tp-link router - 12.51 Mbps download / 10.65 Mbps

Asus Router Slow Wifi

In your ASUS Router Web Interface, under the Traffic Manager side menu item, is QoS enabled? if so, there are probably upload and download bandwidth fields. This could be the cause of your un-even throughput. Just turn off QoS on your ASUS router and run your test again. This is just an assumption because I don't have your router configuration file in front of me.

After trying all suggested things and setups, I asked the provider to give me the WIFI password for their device and now I am using their device's wireless network and plugged out my ASUS router.
I concluded that the router-to-router connection isn't working very well or there is some sort of limitation in their device on using another router connected the PON-TECH one.
